There are a number of factors to determine the specific fee for a non-emergency transport, such as the mileage traveled, and Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) needs. You are advised to check with your insurance provider to determine your patient responsibility based on your individual coverage.

Medicare must first determine that your ambulance transport is deemed medically necessary. Non-emergency transports are deemed medically necessary when another mode of transportation (i.e., private car, ride-sharing service) would endanger a patient medically during transport. If the transport is deemed medically necessary and meets Medicare criteria then the patient is responsible for 20% of the Medicare allowed amount. We accept the allowable amount that Medicare pays as full payment for service.
